What a fail ...

As I mentioned in my previous post, I used a Simply Sewing Magazine pattern to make a hoodie from heavy fleece fabric I've had in my stash for some time. Hmmm ...

Not sure if it was because the fleece did not have much stretch but it was a dismal failure. 

Before I cut the fabric I measured the pattern to make sure I was choosing the right size because they were marked as being 1, 2, 3, etc. And, yes, I deducted the seam allowances from the pattern to make sure it fitted.

Everything was going fine until I sewed the sleeves and side seams. 

I don't have muscly arms, just normal sized ones but these sleeves are a fail.

It starts with the armhole being too small and, of course, it makes the sleeves too narrow. Too narrow to be even comfortable. At first I thought I would just use it as an around-the-house item but it's way too uncomfortable even for that.

Now it has been consigned to the bin. 

Onward and upwards, as they say.

I originally wrote this post back in May, 2018 and didn't do anything more about it. My apologies. Now it is summer in Australia and my craft work has been concentrated on cards.

Like I said, I'm a closet craft junkie ...

And I've discovered I'm not the only one but more about that in a moment.

Currently, I'm in a sewing frame of mind. Winter is coming on and I hate being cold. 

Rummaging in my fabric stash I found some pale blue and dark blue fleece fabric that I had put aside to make a Kwik Sew zipped jacket. Now I don't think I liked the combination so it didn't get further than cutting out the dark blue bits (now binned). 

Along came Simply Sewing magazine with an included pattern for a hoodie. A light bulb moment!

The pale blue fleece is cut out. I'm using some darker blue knit t-shirt fabric (left over from another project) for the hood lining and cord. 

Looking forward to sewing it today and tomorrow and will report back with the finished item.

About 'closet craft junkies' - I discovered recently my husband's cousin is a sewer! Now this is a lady who loves her motorcycles and I've known her for years. She announced on Facebook that she'd bought a new overlocker and I thought W H A T!?! It turns out she also owns a sewing machine and has made things like quilts. I'm impressed!

Just goes to show how little we know about each other.
